Welcome From the Principal

Ms. Morris, Principal

Ms. Morris

Dear Lawson S.T.E.A.M. Academy Families and Staff,

It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction as the incoming Principal of Gerald A. Lawson S.T.E.A.M. Academy.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community.  I feel very fortunate to be a part of this school and to support the students and families.

For over twenty-three years I have been committed to the field of education in a variety of roles.  Most recently, I served as Assistant Principal at Raymond Avenue Elementary School for the past 7 years.  I’ve also supported students and teachers from Early Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade in a variety of roles.  I have served as a general education teacher, a Title One and English Learner Designee, as well as an Assistant Principal.  I am thrilled to bring my skill set as an instructional leader to Gerald A. Lawson S.T.E.A.M. Academy and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure each child's success.

On a personal note, I have lived in the Los Angeles area for over 43 years.  I obtained my undergraduate degree from California State University, Northridge and my Master's degree in Cross-Cultural Teaching from National University.  I am currently reviewing several programs to complete a doctorate program.

I am delighted to be part of the South Mid-City Community of Schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District, which values high standards by providing rich learning experiences for all students.  I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the uniqueness of Gerald A. Lawson S.T.E.A.M Academy this year and in the years to come.  Most importantly, I bring a belief that students are at the center of all school-related decisions.  I am excited to unite my experience, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to support our students.  The relationship between families and the school are vital to the success of our students.  I encourage you to become involved in every way possible to ensure the success of our students and school community.  I look forward to meeting you soon!
